A week of colourful plates and hands-on food play, as our Kindergarten children discover fruits and vegetables through taste, touch and a little bit of dress-up.
Happy Tummy Week brought our Kindergarten classrooms a week of hands-on nutrition, built around one simple idea: a child remembers a vegetable far better once they have held it, sorted it and tasted it themselves.
Each class took a turn at the activity table, working through bowls of seasonal fruit and vegetables with a teacher close by to guide the sorting and naming. On one day the children traded their usual routine for paper chef hats and tried their hand at plating a meal, choosing their own mix of colours and textures.
The week closed with a shared lunch table, where the emphasis stayed on trying a little of everything rather than finishing a lot of any one thing.
Parents are welcome to keep sending in tiffin boxes that mix it up - the more colours on the plate, the more the children have to talk about.
