Teachers' Day Celebration

Teachers' Day at OLIS is kept close to the classroom rather than staged as one big programme. Each class marks it in its own way - a card made the evening before, a small treat shared over tea, a few students standing up to say thank you in their own words.

The idea we ask staff to hold onto is that the day belongs to the children as much as to the teachers: it is their chance to practise saying something kind and meaning it, not to perform gratitude for an audience.

Across the school the day usually ends the way it starts - with a teacher a little more touched than usual, and a classroom a little quieter than the rest of the year, if only for an afternoon.
